Hi — I’m a CPA. For the last fifteen years I’ve been the guy people call at 11pm when a tax bill shows up, when a contract ends, when a loan payment is due and the money isn’t there.
Over those years I’ve handled hundreds of clients across every income shape you can imagine — salaried engineers, freelance designers juggling three 1099s, travel nurses bouncing between states, restaurant owners, door-dash drivers, teachers with side businesses, small LLC owners, new parents figuring out dependent credits, and retirees trying to stretch a pension. Different jobs. Same questions. The same confusion about why their money disappeared despite earning more than they thought they earned.
Here is what 15 years of client work taught me — and why I built this site.
Most people don’t have a math problem. They have a clarity problem. They didn’t fail to earn enough; they failed to understand the rules their own paycheck runs on — which parts are taxable, which deductions they never claimed, which bank account their emergency fund should actually live in, which repayment plan makes sense for their exact situation. The tax code is 6,000 pages long, but the part that matters to your wallet fits on about 20. Nobody taught you those pages.
So I started writing the guide I kept repeating to clients over and over. The one that explains the thing they didn’t know they were losing money on. The one that shows a real number, a real date, a real rule — and what to do about it this month, not “someday.”
That’s what Worth Every Cents is. Plain-language money advice backed by the work I do every day. Every guide I publish passes three tests before it goes live:
- Would I tell a paying client this? If I wouldn’t say it to your face in my office, it doesn’t get published. Hype, filler, and affiliate sales tricks don’t survive that question.
- Are the numbers verified? Every rate, every limit, every threshold is checked against the primary source (IRS, GSA, FDIC, the bank’s own page) at the time I write it — and I put the date on it.
- Does this help you keep more of the money you earn? Finance is a margin game. My job is to widen yours, not to sell you something.
As a CPA I cannot give you personalized advice on a blog — your situation is different from every other client I’ve sat across from. But I can give you the same rules, thresholds, worked examples, and decision frameworks I use in real client conversations, written plainly enough that you can actually use them.
That’s the whole mission. Every guide I publish is one I wish my clients already knew when they sat down. Start with whatever’s costing you the most right now — for most people it’s taxes they didn’t know they could reduce, a loan they’re paying the wrong way, or a savings account earning nothing.
